Amman, Oct. 8 (Petra) -- The National Export Strategy for 2026–2029, recently approved by the Cabinet, is designed to strengthen the position of Jordanian products in international markets, broaden the pool of exporting companies, and diversify both products and destinations, thereby increasing the value generated by exports and their contribution to economic growth, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah said.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Qudah said the strategy forms part of a broader effort to develop Jordan’s productive sectors and improve their competitiveness in line with the Economic Modernization Vision. It provides a national framework for coordinating efforts and setting export priorities based on market needs and shifts in global trade.
The strategy sets a target of 5 percent annual export growth and aims to raise manufactured exports from JD4.7 billion to JD7.9 billion by 2029. It also seeks to expand services exports and increase the share of value added generated locally.
Qudah said the strategy’s next phase will concentrate on sectors and products with the greatest export potential, with efforts focused on improving quality and productivity, promoting innovation, leveraging trade agreements, and strengthening companies’ ability to connect with overseas markets and buyers through tools such as e-commerce and the digital economy.
He highlighted the need to bring more companies into the export sector, particularly SMEs, by giving them access to market intelligence and studies, supporting promotional activities, and helping establish links with buyers abroad. This, he said, will help businesses move beyond the domestic market and compete internationally.
Qudah said the strategy will be implemented through sector-specific action plans covering 2026–2029. These plans will set out programs, projects, responsibilities, and financing requirements, with an interim review in 2027 and an impact assessment in 2029 to track implementation and adjust priorities as market conditions evolve.
The Cabinet this week approved the National Export Strategy for 2026–2029, which goes beyond simply increasing export value to promoting greater diversification and sustainability. It seeks to reduce reliance on a limited number of products and markets, increase the number of companies entering the export sector, diversify the range of exported products, and expand into new and non-traditional markets.
Priority sectors identified by the strategy include apparel, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fertilizers, engineering products, and food. Services exports will also be promoted, particularly in information technology, management and engineering consulting, and creative industries.
SMEs are a particular focus of the strategy, with measures aimed at helping them meet international standards and market requirements, access market intelligence, promote their products, and connect with potential buyers. The goal is to enable a larger number of Jordanian businesses to make the transition from domestic sales to international trade.
The strategy will also capitalize on Jordan’s trade agreements and opportunities across regional and international markets, while making greater use of digital economy tools, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence to help Jordanian businesses reach new customers and markets.
